In this week of camp:
We cooked and ate the foods from A Series of Unfortunate Events, to discover the true culinary history of the Baudelaire orphans at the hands of the villainous Count Olaf. We also made our own naturally carbonated soda, fermented right in the bottle (!) during our week-long camp! This week of camp was based on the Lemony Snicket books and Netflix series.

DAY 1: Dinner with Count Olaf
We started the week by making Pasta Puttanesca, using the recipe I created based on my extensive research in the remains of Justice Strauss' library. For dessert, we made Pink Raspberry Cupcakes with raspberries hidden inside where Count Olaf won't find them.

DAY 2: Dinner with Uncle Monty
We made our own Chinese take-out food. with Asian Meatballs (from the Notes section of this recipe) and Fried Rice. Then we made Uncle Monty's Coconut Cream Cake for dessert. We also started our soda fermentation to make Parsley Soda and Hibiscus Lime Soda. And we started an experiment with yeast so we can see how fermentation works.

(Looks like we were so hands-on busy with the kids this day that we forget to take very many pictures!)
DAY 3: Lake Lachrymose Cooking School
We traveled to Lake Lachrymose to visit the cooking school where Captain Sham claimed he first met Aunt Josephine. We made toques (chef's hats) and took a Cooking School class photo! We made Cheer-Up Cheeseburgers and wrote secret messages inside with garlic mayonnaise, Not-Aunt-Josephine's Chilled Cucumber Soup, and Chocolate Pudding for dessert. We also transferred our homemade soda from the large jugs to the bottles, to complete their fermentation.

Watch for a bubble in the airlock - this tells us it’s time to decant the soda into individual bottles for secondary fermentation! (Soundtrack provided by an enthusiastic camper) :)
DAY 4: A Dinner Party with Esme Squalor
It's not just a dinner party, it's a d-IN-ner party! We made only the innest foods: Roast Salmon with Lime and Very Fresh Dill, and Salmon Puffs (just like the ones Cafe Salmonella served at the In Auction in The Ersatz Elevator). The kids had fun smearing flour on their faces to disguise themselves. And they used the extra puff pastry to make "cookies" for dessert.

DAY 5: Hector and Hugo, plus Soda!
We used washi tape to make disguises and pinstripes, and the kids created a Pinstripe Shop where everything is IN! We made Hector's Chicken Enchiladas from The Vile Village and Hugo's Tom Kha Gai from The Carnivorous Carnival. And finally, we uncorked our home-brewed soda and toasted our IN week of camp!
